In June of 2023, a company called OceanGate which is famous for deep-sea exploration was in charge of the Titan submersible, which we all know as of 2024, right? And so the Titan went through the darkest places of the Atlantic Ocean to find the Titanic shipwreck, through a very specific mission that was only a matter of time before something went horribly wrong. Sadly, it lost contact with its support ship, and after searching for days, the Titan was found to have tragically imploded under extreme pressure in the deep water. But did you know that this accident is still in question, and there is now this Titan Submersible Lawsuit regarding that? Yes, let’s have a look at just that.
Who Were The Victims of the Titan Tragedy?
Well, most of you already know Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a very well-known French explorer, who was among those on board, who made a total of 37 dives all around the wreck of Titanic. And just so you know, Nargeolet had gained a lot of authority in the matter of Titanic wreckage accidents since he was the one who had the most dives in that wreck. The second victim was Stockton Rush, the chief executive and co-founder of OceanGate, who was the pilot of the vessel. Then there was a British individual named Hamish Harding, an entrepreneur, and adventurer who was part of the team onboard the vessel. Moreover, also included was the Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, along with his son, Suleman. The five of them launched out on a dangerous venture that would eventually prove to become fatal.
Then Came The Lawsuit from Nargeolet’s Family
Following the unfortunate incident, Paul-Henri Nargeolet’s relatives filed a lawsuit against OceanGate for the amount of $50 million holding it responsible for gross negligence, you know? Yes, this is the very Titan Submersible Lawsuit that has been in the headlines recently. And just to elaborate, their claim is that OceanGate didn’t do everything possible to make the submersible safe. Additionally, the lawsuit indicates that the crew, including Nargeolet, went through extreme terror and mental agony just before the sub got submerged. Moreover, it claims that the passengers were conscious of the sub’s malfunctioning and this realization increased their suffering before the sub was vanquished. Their indispensable responsibility is that of the company OceanGate, which they blame for the complete lack of information that was provided to the crew regarding the risks of the submersible.
Post-Tragedy Investigations
You see, after the Titan submarine exploded, the U.S. Coast Guard opened an investigation into what led to the disaster. Though, the investigation is still ongoing, and a public hearing is set to take place in September 2024. At this hearing, authorities and experts will discuss whether the company OceanGate was responsible for what happened, and whether there were any safety gaps that could have been filled. The hearing will not only look at the particular event but will also delve into the surrounding issues, where there are concerns about what is going to happen in this unregulated place in the future. Without a single doubt, this incident has raised significant questions regarding safety, supervision, and policy, issues that will need to be addressed if deep-sea private explorations are to continue, you know?
