Dolly Verzosa vowed to give it her all in her final playing year for Jose Rizal University, which she hopes she can help bring to the Final Four and beyond in the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament.
“Simula nung nag-start pa lang ‘yung bubble namin, tumatak na talaga sa utak ko ‘yung goal ko na dalhin ‘yung team sa Final Four and hopefully makaabot kami ng finals,” said Verzosa on Tuesday after helping JRU overcome Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
“Kaya lagi sa training, ‘yun lagi iniisip namin. Minsan nawawala siya then kailangan ko lang i-remind ‘yung sarili ko.”
WIth this in mind, Verzosa showed up in their win against the Lady Knights.
After bucking a slow start, the Lady Bombers still emerged victorious in four sets with Verzosa pouring in nine points and middle blocker Syd Niegos chiming in with 11 markers.
Although they had a flat start, Verzosa and head coach Mia Tioseco were proud to see the team collectively leaving everything on the floor.
“At first, medyo kinakabahan pa, medyo naga-adjust pa kasi ito ‘yung first na nakapaglaro kami talaga,” shared Verzosa.
“But as always na sinasabi ni coach Mia, kung ano ‘yung ginagawa namin sa training, gawin lang namin sa game, start strong lang lagi. Tsaka sanay kami na medyo lamang kaagad ‘yung kalaban.”
Tioseco added that the win would have not been possible if not for the graduating players like Verzosa and opposite hitter Renesa Melgar, who chipped in 10 points in the victory.
“Actually very proud ako sa kanilang lahat as a unit, especially sa graduating players kasi kumbaga na-showcase nila kung ano ‘yung kaya nilang gawin. ‘Yun lang naman ‘yung gusto ko para at least, they feel good about themselves.”
