PV Sindhu vs He Bingjiao

Sindhu has managed to secure two Super 300 titles — the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open — this year but she has looked vulnerable against top players, facing defeats at the hands of Thailand’s Ratchanok Inthanon, China’s Chen Yu Fei and Korea’s An Se Young.

However, the former world champion is known to up her game in big events and she will look to gear up for next month’s Commonwealth Games with another good show at the Indonesia Open when she opens against China’s He Bing Jiao, whom she had beaten at Badminton Asia Championship.

If Sindhu, seeded seventh, can cross the opening two rounds, she is likely to face the third seeded An Se Young, who has an overwhelming 5-0 record against the Indian.

Meanwhile, Indian veteran Saina Nehwal, who is trying to make a comeback to her best after battling multiple fitness issues in the last few months, will skip this event as she plans to compete at the Malaysia Open next week.

Sai Praneeth vs Hans Kristian Vittinghus

World No.19 Sai Praneeth has not been in a great touch this year. His best performance this year is making it to the third round at the Orleans Masters. He has played in four other tournaments this year and hasn’t gone past the first round in any of those tournaments.

Meanwhile, 21st ranked Hans Kristian Vittinghus enters the tournament after a first round exit at the Indonesian Masters. His best performance this year is quarterfinal appearance at European Championships.

This will be the fifth meeting between both these players and Vittinghus leads the head-to-head record 3-1.

He also faced first round exit at All England Championship. His best performance is reaching the quarterfinals at the Swiss Open. He then suffered an injury and made a comeback in the Indonesian Masters only to bow out from the first round.

He was about to face compatriot Parupalli Kashyap but the latter pulled out of the tournament and he is set to face France’s Thomas Rouxel. Apart from reaching the quarterfinals at the European Championships, he hasn’t gone past the first round in all the other tournaments he played this year.
