jack dorsey: Jack Dorsey, Jay-Z’s partner in the Bitcoin education program in the United States

San Francisco: Co-founder of Twitter and CEO of Block Jack Dorsey on Friday he teamed up with artist Shawn Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z, to launch The Bitcoin Academy – an educational initiative in New York.

The initiative is a free 12-week training course, both online and in person, for residents of the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, where Jay-Z grew up, from June 22 to September 7.

The program, created in collaboration with Crypto Blockchain and black plug Bitcoin Billionaire, aims to provide education and

the community with knowledge.

“Mr. Shawn Carter and I are funding The #Bitcoin Academy, a resident program for Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, New York, where Jay grew up,” shared Dorsey in a tweet.

“Education is the starting point. It’s not just about bitcoin … it’s about long-term thinking, local economies and self-reliance,” he added.

According to the academy, in-person classes will take place two evenings a week and dinner will be served. People participating in the program will also receive MiFi devices and a one-year limited data plan, as well as smartphones if needed.

For children aged 5-17, a separate “Crypto Kids Camp” will be held two Saturdays.

“Shout to @Jack. The #Bitcoin Academy, starting with Marcy, a place that taught me so much, I hope is the first of many. The simple goal is to provide people with the tools to build independence for themselves and then for the community around them, “Carter said in a tweet.

The academy said the program aims to provide education, empower the community with knowledge, and eliminate some of the barriers so that residents can learn more about Bitcoin in particular and finance in general.

“Bitcoin is becoming a vital tool for many in Africa and Central and South America,” tweeted Dorsey.

“We believe that the same potential exists within communities in the United States. Our goal is to demonstrate that making powerful tools more available to people allows them to build greater independence,” he added.

Additionally, the academy said it aims to spread the initiative to more neighborhoods across the United States.

Dorsey and Jay-Z are longtime collaborators and Bitcoin evangelists. In addition to working on TIDAL, which Jay-Z sold to Dorsey, the duo jointly invested 500 BTC last year with an emphasis on developing the cryptocurrency’s popularity in India and Africa, TechCrunch reported.

The academy will operate on a day-to-day basis with the help of a small staff from the Shawn Carter Foundation, led by Jay-Z’s mother, Gloria Carter, as co-founder and CEO.

“The Shawn Carter Foundation has always been concerned with providing access to education and opening doors of opportunity to disadvantaged communities,” Carter said in a statement. “Everyone should be empowered to make informed financial decisions in order to take care of themselves and their families.”
