Albert Pujols of the Cardinals makes his historic mound debut in victory over the Giants

Average MLB fans might think Albert Pujols has nothing more to do in terms of firsts.

She got her first career hit on April 2, 2001, a single Rocky Mountains of Colorado pitcher Mike Hampton. He would score his first career home run in a 3 for 5 night against Diamondback from Arizona April 6, 2001 – off Armando Reynoso and later records his first double.

He already has more than 600 home runs and 3,300 shots. He has played the All-Star Game 10 times and is a three-time National League MVP.

Sunday night against the Giants of San Francisco, reminded fans that there was at least one thing he didn’t do: take the mound. In the middle of the St. Louis Cardinals‘Blowout against the Giants, Pujols made the journey to the bump for the first time in his 22-year career.

He went out for the ninth inning when the Cardinals were leading 15-2. He would have conceded two home runs in the frame before closing the win for the Red Birds 15-6.

Evan Longoria, third baseman of the Giants, knocked out Pujols with one out. He asked to keep the ball in what was sure to be a special moment for both veteran players.

Pujols’ top speed was 69 mph for Thairo Estrada. Pujols convinced Estrada to choose a defender.

Journalist Sarah Langs noted that Pujols was the second oldest player to make his launch debut.

Lena Blackburne did it at 42 years and 225 days in 1929 for the Chicago White Sox. He conceded a shot in 1/3 of an inning.
