Britney Spears shared some devastating news on her Instagram account on Saturday.
The 40-year-old singer announced on Saturday in a joint statement with boyfriend Sam Asghari via Instagram that she had had a miscarriage.
“We lost our miracle baby in early pregnancy,” the statement read. “Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further ahead, yet we were overly excited to share the good news.”
The couple asked for privacy in this “difficult” period.
The post, signed “Sam & Britney”, also included a caption:
“We are grateful for what we have in the process of expanding our beautiful family Thank you for your support.”
Spears is a mother of two with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15. She seemed overjoyed to share the news that she was expecting her first child with her longtime partner Asghari in April.
“I took a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I’m having a baby,” Spears wrote in a Instagram post last month.
Asghari was also excited at the time, sharing on Instagram that “parenthood is something I’ve always looked forward to”.
The loss comes after Spears expressed a desire to have more children.
A judge in November Spears’ protection dissolvedending a legal settlement that placed her under her father’s supervision and placed severe limits on her personal and financial freedoms for more than 13 years.
On the way, Spears said her guardianship restrictions were preventing her from doing so get married and have a baby.
In the couple’s joint statement on Saturday, they indicated that they are not giving up on their dream of having more children.
“We will continue to try to expand our beautiful family,” the statement said.
