The republican spectacle of the passion for individual liberties is a cover-up for their attempt to destroy it, their hypocrisy is dangerous. Republicans like Ron DeSantis support the Nazis’ right to free speech, but not Disney’s. They call any restrictions on 2nd Amendment rights unconstitutional and call the free press “the enemy of the people” (used by dictator Joseph Stalin), while advocating censorship of the educational curriculum and punishing private industry for expressing their views on issues. policies. This is totalitarian and signals a dangerous corruption of the Republican party that threatens the survival of the American version of democracy.
“It’s okay to pray as long as you pray.” This opinion piece appeared in HuffPost in 2016 and highlighted the hypocrisy inherent in this group of Americans. Evangelicals and other segments of American Christians contradict the basic teachings of Jesus. The words they use in Jesus’ name do not correspond to their actions. The article highlighted contradictions such as:
They espouse the importance of family values, but have backed Donald Trump candidate Roy Moore, accused of plundering 14-year-old girls
72% of evangelicals say immoral leaders can still lead ethically as long as they are pro-abstinence, anti-LGBTQ, and anti-abortion.
They overlooked Donald Trump’s adultery, credible sexual assault allegations, and his “grabbing women by the pussy” attitude as acceptable behavior.
Jesus spoke of helping the poor, the disabled and the suffering. Christian Republican extremists support millionaire politicians who practice bigotry, oppose social programs that help the disadvantaged
Christians speak of compassion and of “loving one’s neighbor” while supporting the cruel policy towards immigrants
A full Republican takeover of our government may be needed for Christian extremists to realize that their values, lifestyle and freedom mean nothing to Trump. The MAGA movement used them to gain power, not to promote a Jesus-based America. Being an extremist supporter of any ideology leads to the numbness of society. If Christians read the Constitution, they would know that America is not a Christian country, the separation of church and state is built into our government and “all people are created equal”. If you love Trump’s “America First” slogan so much, follow the Constitution. Hypocrisy is debasing the Church and will eventually diminish its value and influence. The excellent religion it could have offered to society is dying in the Trump era. The leaders of the sects do not end well, and neither do their teachings and followers.
