Volkswagen Amarok 2022 details revealed

Australian ute buyers are in for a surprise as another high-class double-cabin workhorse will be confirmed for local release later this year.

Australian shoppers are spoiled for choice.

Volkswagen is preparing its new Amarok workhorse for its assault on the Australian market later this year.

The new Amarok shares its foundation with the Designed and engineered in AustraliaFord Ranger which will go on sale locally in the coming months.

Ryan Davies, Australian brand director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said the Amarok is expected to make its world debut on July 7.

Final specs for the Australian market have not been confirmed, but globally there will be a petrol engine and up to four diesel options.

At the head of the range will be a large 3.0-liter V6 diesel.

The Amarok will have a healthy payload of 1.2 tons and can tow up to 3500kg.

It will be available in five spec types, including a new off-road-focused “PanAmericana” and asphalt-oriented “Aventura”.

Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and permanent all-wheel drive or on request.

VW is packing the Amarok with hi-tech features including a digital cockpit, tablet-style infotainment display, and high-end stereo.

The German brand promotes the Amarok’s big safety leap with 30 active driving systems included, 20 more than the current version. VW did not disclose whether the new Amarok will have rear seat airbag cover, one of the main drawbacks of the current version.

Volkswagen Australia is also looking to continue its partnership with Walkinshaw, according to Davies.

“We are looking at this right now and the partnership has been incredibly successful,” he said.

“We have to have a competitive edge with what we have with the new Amarok and partnering with Walkingshaw or someone like that will give us something unique on the market and still give us the uniqueness of the W580. We are certainly looking at his successor. “

Davies said they wouldn’t chase the Ranger Raptor with the Walkinshaw Amarok, but instead try to carve their own niche.

“We think we have something like a concept that could work quite well and fit the Australian market,” said Davies.
