In the late summer of 2022, unfortunately, a really horrible thing happened (in August month of the year to be precise) at an Airbnb holiday rental in Bethel, New York. Yes, this is about the Amin family. The three members of this family, Afrid Haider, his brother-in-law Basir Amin, and his sister-in-law Nasrin Amin, were found dead by drowning near the property, and it was just the 2nd day of their stay at the lakefront property which they booked by using Airbnb. Now, the family of those three are suing not only the property owner, but Airbnb as well, and that’s precisely what has led to this Airbnb Drowning Lawsuit.
How Did It All Happen?
Sure, the Amin family was having a great time together. They had rented a cool house near White Lake, a popular holiday destination in upstate New York. They loved the Airbnb listing with lake-related activities, including access to a swim platform, and they had planned to have a great time at the lake. Of course, on the day of the event, Afrid Haider, not being a good swimmer, tried to reach the swim platform, trusting that the water would be shallow to walk around. However, it was when he was approaching, all of a sudden, the lake floor was a depth of an 18 feet sudden drop.
Afrid, who was unable to swim normally in sight of this, was struggling in the deep waters and then his brother-in-law Basir and sister-in-law Nasrin came to his rescue by rushing to the water. They joined their hands together urgently to pull him out, however, they all were caught in a section of the lake that was deep and of course, they tragically failed to stay on the shallow side water. Members of the family onshore made efforts to render assistance but they were not able to be of help because they themselves could not swim. When the emergency responders showed up, they pulled the three of them out of the lake but alas at that time they had already died.
Legal Claims and Lawsuit
And then, after the tragedy happened, the Amin family filed a lawsuit against both Airbnb and the property owners, which we now know as the Airbnb Drowning Lawsuit. They argue that the deaths were the result of negligence. The case claims that neither Airbnb nor the property owners gave a proper warning regarding the danger of the lake’s drop-off. From the shore and the water’s surface, the sharp depth relief couldn’t be seen, and there were no signs or notifications that pointed to the risk of it.
The case also emphasizes that the Airbnb listing stated that the property would be “luxe” and “safe”, which prompted guests to take advantage of the lake. According to the family, if they had known about the underwater cliff and the area, they would have avoided it, and their loved ones would still be alive today. This lawsuit is still in progress and has recently been picked up by the mainstream media, so if there is any update there, we will keep you posted.
