Denice Zamboanga ‘to set friendship aside’ in world title fight vs Stamp Fairtex

Filipina mixed martial arts contender Denice Zamboanga will set friendship aside when she challenges Stamp Fairtex for the ONE women’s atomweight world title at ONE 166 on March 1 in Qatar.

Zamboanga, 27, used to train at the Fairtex Training Center in Pattaya, Thailand, where she developed a strong relationship with the three-sport world champion.

“It has been four years since we last trained together. That was a long time ago,” Zamboanga said.

“She has improved a lot and she is even more active than me when it comes to fighting. She knows Muay Thai, kickboxing, and also MMA so she has an improved grappling.”

Though it has been a while since they last trained together, Zamboanga shared they have maintained their friendship and they are constantly in touch on social media. Come fight night, however, all of that will be thrown out the window.

“We talk until now on social media. We have not lost our friendship,” Zamboanga remembered.

“Back when we trained together, we sparred seriously, but after that were happy moments. I think that would be the case for this fight. We will set our friendship aside and after that, we go back to normal.”
