Oilers recall G Calvin Pickard from AHL Bakersfield to replace Campbell

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled veteran goalie Calvin Pickard from AHL Bakersfield, the team announced Wednesday.

The move comes one day after the Oilers placed struggling goalie Jack Campbell on waivers as the team searches for answers in goal during a terrible start to the season. Campbell cleared waivers Wednesday and was assigned to Bakersfield.

Pickard, 31, is 2-2 with a 2.03 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in four games with Bakersfield this season.

In 116 career NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes and Detroit Red Wings, the native of Moncton, N.B. is 35-54-10 with a 3.03 GAA and .903 save percentage.

Pickard last played in the NHL in 2021-22 when he appeared in three games with the Red Wings.

Pickard signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Oilers in the summer of 2022. He spent all of last season with Bakersfield.

The Oilers are in San Jose to face the Sharks on Thursday in a game featuring the two teams at the bottom of the NHL standings. Watch the game on Sportsnet West or Sportsnet+ at 10:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. MT.
